* PAN Can be effected by strong acids at elevated temperatures .
* Can be effected by strong alkalines.
Acrylic normally refers to homopolymer products in this industry, but there are small amounts of copolymer used where the conditions are less arduous and price is an important consideration.
It is a medium temperature fibre, up to 120°C continuous, and has good chemical resistance as its structure imparts resistance to hydrolysis. It is a fibre with quite a low strength so care is need in mechanically stressed systems. This weakness is increasingly being tackled by mixing the fibre with polyester to produce a compromise needlefelt.
